Abstract
Nutraceuticals are biologically active substances obtained from food sources that offer health benefits beyond their basic nutritional value. They include plant extracts, vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals, each of which plays a key role in supporting health, preventing disease, and optimizing physiological functions. This review examines the role of these nutrients in nutraceutical products, with a particular focus on their mechanisms of action, therapeutic effects, and potential clinical applications. Plant extracts, such as those from turmeric, ginseng, and green tea, are rich in bioactive compounds like curcumin, ginsenosides, and polyphenols that have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immune-modulating properties. Vitamins, such as C, D, and E are vital for immune support, bone health, and skin regeneration, while minerals like magnesium, calcium, and zinc are essential for processes ranging from muscle function to immune defense. Phytochemicals, including alkaloids, terpenoids, and carotenoids, offer additional protective benefits, with roles in reducing oxidative stress, preventing cancer, and promoting cardiovascular health.
