ACC Men's Golf Teams Ready for 2024 NCAA Championship Play (2024)

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC.com) – A conference-record-tying seven Atlantic Coast Conference men’s golf teams prepare for the 2024 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship from the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California. The stroke play portion gets underway on Friday, May 24 with the match play competition scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 28.

The seven ACC teams include Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Virginia and Wake Forest, while Ethan Evans of Duke and Nick Mathews of NC State will be competing as individuals. The seven league teams match a conference record set in 2021 and are the most remaining teams among all conferences.

During regional play, Clemson was the lone ACC team to earn a regional title, winning the Chapel Hill Regional by a stroke over ETSU. It marked the Tigers’ first regional title in 20 years and eighth in program history. Also in Chapel Hill, North Carolina’s Austin Greaser (197, -13) claimed his second career individual regional title, edging Mathews by a stroke to earn medalist honors.

Top-seeded UNC and Georgia Tech finished third and fourth, respectively, in Chapel Hill to earn their spot in the NCAA Championship. The Tar Heels will be playing in their 49th NCAA Championship all-time, as they are one of only three teams nationally to advance to match play and finish in the top five in each of the last three NCAA Championships. The Yellow Jackets are appearing in the finals for the 33rd time in program history looking to advance to match play for the sixth time.

In the Austin Regional, Notre Dame claimed third, while Wake Forest needed to win a fifth-place playoff against BYU to punch its ticket to California. This will be the first NCAA Championship appearance for the Fighting Irish since the regional format was adopted in 1989. The Fighting Irish last competed in the NCAA Championship in 1966. The Demon Deacons are making their fourth appearance in the last five seasons and 48th overall trip to the NCAA Championship.

ACC Championship co-medalist, Florida State’s Frederik Kjettrup, finished as the runner-up in the Stanford Regional, leading the top-seeded Seminoles to a second-place finish and their fourth-straight trip to the NCAA Championship.

At the Baton Rouge Regional, Virginia finished second for its best finish at a regional in program history. Led by a pair of top-10 finishes by Bryan Lee (8th, -4) and Ben James (T9th, -3), UVA will be making its 19th appearance at the NCAA Championships. Duke’s Evans tied for second at 6-under in the final individual standings to earn his spot in the field at the NCAA Championship. Evans' second-place finish tied him for the best finish at an NCAA Regional in program history, matching Jason Buha (1997) and Adam Long (2010).

Thirty teams and six individuals have qualified for the NCAA Championship. Following 54 holes of competition, the top 15 teams along with the top nine individuals not on an advancing team will advance for one additional day of stroke play to determine the top eight teams for match-play competition and the 72-hole stroke-play individual champion. The top eight teams after 72 holes of play will be placed into a bracket thereafter.
