3rd Kyu green belt 1 – 3 blue tabs, 1 -3 brown tabs, 1 – 3 black tabs

BJC does allow tabs on senior belts but we don’t use them at our club – we just promote by whole belts for seniors.

We grade members (ie those with monthly payments to Warwick Judo Club) three times a year at the end of each school term. Assesment is made during regular sessions and awarded at the beginning of sessions at some point during the assesment month. Members simply need to bring their in date BJC licence and hand to Dave once the grading period has been announced on our What’s App group. There is a club grading fee of £10 for Seniors and £7.50 for Juniors to cover assesment and administration time, payable on our website’s pricing page.
If seniors are training once a week then they will be graded every other grading (blue belt will take 2 years).
If seniors are training twice or three times a week they will be graded at each grading (blue belt will take just over a year).
If juniors are training once a week then they will be graded at one tab per grading.
If juniors are training twice or three times a week then they will be graded at two tabs per grading.

Jigoro Kano said that where there is effort there is always accomplishment so don’t worry too much about all the Japanese terminology – if you are coming to classes you will be progressing, and that deserves recognition.

Grades above green belt for Juniors and blue belt for seniors must be competed for at area gradings. As the grades at our club are non competitive the BJC encourage members to gain competition experience by competing at local competitions and the BJC National Championships.
