Putting Learning into Action: Market Day!Aaloo lelo, Aaloo ki chips lelo at Aarth Bazaar!1-2s explored the unit ‘Market’ where we explored what markets are and how they facilitate an exchange of goods and services between consumers and producers. This unit also involved analysing different types of markets, the roles of producers and consumers, and the journey products take from being made to reaching customers (production and transportation). To apply the knowledge we gained, in a real-world context and to solidify our understanding of markets, we created a market within our school community. We haven't just created a market, we’ve also become the producers ourselves! We experienced what it takes to grow, make, and sell products. Here's what we produced:Vegetables and fruits: We planted saplings in our school garden to grow fresh produce.Potato chips: We transformed raw potatoes into delicious potato chips in our classroom!Sago chips: We created another kind of chips, this time using sago as the base.By selling our homegrown and homemade products to our school community, we got to know what it's like to be a vendor in a market. We understood how customers interact with the products we created.

Think about this I recently stumbled upon the question below and I couldn't help but share my thoughts.I want you to imagine a world where growing your own food isn't just a skill but an extremely valuable one. Being an Experienced Primary School Administrator who is working with kids, I believe it's crucial to weave the art of growing food into the school curriculum. I can hear you ask why?Well, not only is growing food a skill, it's a skill that's going to be in high demand very soon.Studies suggest that we might face some serious food crisis, and guess what? Knowing how to grow your own food is going to be like having a golden ticket. It won't just be about having fresh veggies on your plate to eat but it will be a way of earning a living. Now, to the kids which is the focus here Imagine teaching kids this skill. It's not just about plants; it's about nurturing and empathy which the process of growing food can instill in them.We all know that growing plants takes time and requires care ( pulling out weeds and watering ). This also teaches them patience, a virtue that's worth its weight in gold.Don't also forget the sweat and hard work that goes into growing food. If we start teaching kids this now, we're not just cultivating crops; we're growing a bunch of hardworking, patient little humans. The benefits are endless. Schools should seriously think about adding this to their curriculum. Start small by showing them how to plant a bean seed in a can or a bag with soil and place it where the sun can work its magic. Let them see the magic of germination unfold and watch their excitement grow.Do you have other benefits to add to the list? kindly share it in the commentsSee you in my next post#schoolleaders #children #kids

In my almost two and half years of being a full-time hands-on food scientist, I have developed two recipes from scratch but with a lot of help in recipe modification. I have learned that passion is the fuel that drives you to develop good new products, time is your initial investment accompanied by patience. Positive feedback boosts your self-confidence and negative feedback keeps you in check as learning never ends, this also gives you room for perfection. The more I find myself working on different products, the harder I keep falling in love with being a food scientist. I LOVE MY JOB Kwithu Kitchen, the perfect space for both personal and academic growth.#foodscientist #gratitude
