there isn't really anything bad with this, all though they do call the white people crackers, and the crowd, when she is getting to school, is threatening to kill her, and hang her, somebody had a doll in a funeral, and showed it to her. But kids learn to never give up. Hopefully, the white people in the movie got the n-word pass by one of the actors, because they say it a lot, sometimes they said regular swear words like Damn and Hell. But that's something to let your 8 yr old watch. I would recommend this to 9 yr olds. Because there is lots of scary stuff in it when I saw the old white lady holding a doll version of ruby in a funeral, I jumped up. Other than that great messages, as much as there are terrible ones.
