Does the Once-ler have a name? ›

Every detail of who he once was is lost, including his name. The Once-ler has a descriptive title, not a name. Much like a baker bakes, the Once-ler onces. He's a storyteller that recounts the events of the past.

The Once-ler was intentionally left faceless by Dr. Seuss.

The result shows that the Once-ler's journey is a Shadow's journey, and that he experienced both Positive and Negative Change Arc that made him a Redeemed Villain, which is different from most of the villains.

At the end of the book, The Once-ler tells the boy that the Truffula trees are really the things that everyone needs, and that they are the most important thing. Think about the imaginary land in The Lorax as it was before the Once-ler arrived.

In Dr. Seuss' book, “The Lorax”, the “Once-ler” pursues his dreams of getting rich by cutting down trees to make Thneeds, without replanting or replenishing the trees. In so doing he awakens the Lorax, the guardian of the trees.

"The different species disappear from the narrative in succession," he notes. "The Bar-ba-loots leave because they run out of food. The Swomee-Swans leave because the air is polluted. The humming fish leave because the water's polluted.

He knew that the seed wouldn't last that long, so he needed to find a way to plant it. He knew that he wouldn't be able to plant it outside (already tried that) and grow back the Truffula forest, so he'd have to settle on planting it in some sort of container and hope it starts growing more seeds.

At the end of his story, the Once-ler gives the boy to whom he is telling it the very last Truffula seed, encouraging him to plant it.

O'Hare, or more simply known as O'Hare, is the main antagonist of Illumination's 3rd feature film The Lorax, an adaptation of Dr. Seuss' 1971 book of the same name. He is the mayor of Thneedville and the Once-ler's successor of business.

Melvin is the name of The Once-ler's pet brown and white mule, as he accompanied him on his journey to find the material for his Thneed.
