Caitlyn Jenner has broken her silence after she was slammed for her 'good riddance' tweet following the death of OJ Simpson, who died on Wednesday at the age of 76

Caitlyn Jenner has finally broken her silence after she sparked outrage on social media with her brutal response to OJ Simpson's death.

OJ's death was announced on Thursday, with his family issuing the following statement: "On April 10th, our father, Orenthal James Simpson, succumbed to his battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. During this time of transition, his family asks that you please respect their wishes for privacy and grace."

While people paid tribute to OJ, Caitlyn instead took to X, previously known as Twitter, to express a less than sympathetic stance, posting: "Good Riddance #OJSimpson." The blunt message was heavily criticised by fans.

In response to the backlash, Caitlyn doubled down on Friday, stating: " know you all think it's cute to compare a fatal car accident (with multiple vehicles involved) to a BRUTAL MURDER." She continued: "But Remember… OJ said something to the effect of… I could kill her (Nicole) and get away with it bc I'm #OJSimpson."

The referenced car accident was referring to the 2015 multi-vehicle crash Caitlyn was involved in.She was not charged with vehicular manslaughter or anything else for her part in the fatal accident. The DA concluded that Caitlyn was not speeding, but she did brake late before crashing into a Lexus.

OJ accused of murdering his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman outside her LA residence in 1994. The subsequent trial captivated America, becoming the first ever to be broadcast live on television, with a staggering 100million people glued to their screens as OJ was acquitted after an eight-month legal battle that ended in early October 1995.

Caitlyn, who was then known as Bruce Jenner, found herself entangled in the drama due to her marriage to Kris Jenner, the ex-wife of Robert Kardashian, OJ's close friend and part of his defense team. The two families shared a tight-knit bond, often vacationing together, and the Kardashian children even affectionately called Simpson "Uncle OJ."

Despite Caitlyn's outspokenness about Oj's death, Kris has remained silent on social media. The connection between the families ran deep; Nicole was a dear friend to Kris, who honored her by giving her daughter Kendall the middle name Nicole.

Two weeks before Nicole's murder, the Kardashians were on a joint vacation in Mexico with OJ's family, Kim Kardashian revealed during an interview with David Letteraman. Kim admitted that the trial and murder "tore" the family apart. She said: "It kind of tore our family apart, I'd say, for the whole time of the trial."
